Use oddments of yellow and black to sew eyes and a beak, make a loop at the top and hang from tree (or handbag!)
LACE SHAWL
This is my favourite shawl and therapy knitting. It makes a lovely present for someone who is going through a hard time. Remember to knit happy thoughts with each stitch. Use the brightest most colourful yarn you can find...funky sock yarn is great for this. The stitch is classic trinity stitch and is used for prayer shawls world wide.
Use 4ply yarn and a 5.5mm circular needle.
Cast on 3 stitches
Row 1 Yarn over (yo), Knit(k) 3
Row 2 K2 (k1, p (purl)1, k1) into next stitch, k1
Row 3 Yo, k to end
Row 4 Yo, K1, (k1,p1,k1) into next st, Knit 3 together (k3tog), (k1,p1,k1) into next st, k1
Row 5 Yo, k to end.
Row 6 Yo, k1, (k1,p1,k1) into next st, *K3tog, (k1,p1,k1) into next st* repeat from * to * until last stitch, k1
Now continue repeating row 5 and 6 until shawl is the width and length you need. If you make a short one it is a lovely nect scarf (100g is ample for this). I would recommend 300g for a good sized shawl.

Turn sock right side out and graft toe
Here is a pattern for a Very Very Simple Shawl. I am often asked what I do with my left over sock yarn so I thought this pattern would make a wonderful multicoloured Happy Shawl. Size and Tension really doesn't matter and how you finish the edges is entirely up to you (although copyright willing I will give you a few ideas later). I am currently knitting this pattern using Noro Silk Garden Sock Yarn (okay it's not exactly left overs but I wanted to get an idea of how much yarn I needed!)
Using 5.5mm circular needle and sock weight yarn (3-4ply equivalent) - I think you will need approx 200g or 1200 metres.
Cast on 1 stitch
1st row Yarn over needle (Yon), Knit (K) 1 = 2 stitches
2nd row Yon, K2 = 3 stitches
3rd row Yon, K to end
Repeat 3rd row until 155 stitches in total
You will have a small shawl with a looped stitch at the begining of each row.
If you want to put a frill or lace edging on your shawl, cast off loosely now (and the instructions for the frill will come soon), otherwise continue with repeats of the 3rd row until you have a shawl the size you want then cast off loosely. You could try putting a fringe on through the looped stitches at each end.
Frilled edge
Knit 1 Purl 1 Knit 1 into each loop down the side of the shawl, Knit 1 Purl 1 Knit 1 knit the first cast on stitch then K1 P1 K1 into each loop up the 2nd side of the shawl.
2nd row - knit every stitch
3rd Row - knit front and back in each stitch
4th Row - as 2nd
5th Row - as 3rd
repeat these rows until the frill is as long as you like then cast off loosely.
Crochet Flower
At the knitting group we have been making flower brooches to sell for Bliss. Here's a very simply crochet corsage. Use any yarn of 4ply weigh (or sock left overs!!!) and a 3.5mm hook
Leaving a very long tail (6 inches) Make a chain of 52, turn
missing the first 2 chains double chain into each of the next chains (50 sts),
Chain 2 to turn, then do a half treble chain into the first stitch and then 2 half trebles into each stitch to the end,
Chain 2 to turn, then do a treble into the first stitch and 2 trebles into each stitch to the end
Cut the yarn with a 4 inch tail and thread though the "open" stitch to cast off.
Then roll up your flower securing with stitches and using the cast off tail thread this through the centre of the flower to shape your bloom.
You can then stitch on a brooch back, sew it to a bag or send it to me to sell for Bliss!!!
Knitted Flower
Use an odd number of stitches - works best on DK or lighter yarn and 3.75mm needles or 3.25mm needles.
Cast on 39 stitches leaving a long tail
Row1 Work Single Rib (K1, P1) to end - starting with K1
Row2 Single Rib in pattern
Row3 K1, *p1, M1 purlwise, K1 repeat from * to end
Row4,6,8,10 Knit the Knit stitches and purl the purl stitches
Row5 K1 * p2, M1 purlwise, K1 repeat from * to end
Row7 K1 * p3, M1 purlwise, K1 repeat from * to end
Row9 K1* p4, M1 purlwise, K1 repeat from * to end
Cast off.
Roll the flowers and seam the cast on edge.
You can then sew on a brooch back, sew it to a bag or send it to me and I will sell it for BLISS!
Leaves
A lovely leaf can really finish off your flower (or do pretty coloured leaves and make a different kind of flower!
Cast on 5 stitches
Row 1 Knit 2, yarnforward(yfwd), k1, yfwd, K2
Row 2 (and all even rows) purl
Row 3 Knit 3, yfwd, k1, yfwd, k3
Row 5 Knit 4, yfwd, k1, yfwd, k4
Row 7 Knit 5, yfwd, k1, yfwd, k5
Row 9 and all following odd rows, knit 2 together through the back loop(k2togtbl), knit to last 2, knit 2 together(k2tog)
When 3 stitches remain slip 1, k2tog, pass slipped stitches over, Cut yarn and fasten off.
